Koay Teow Th'ng 粿條湯

There's a saying only sick people will take Koay Teow Th'ng. But most disagree with this statement, that includes me.

I believe many have blog about this Pitt Street Koay Teow Th'ng that specifically located in Hai Oan coffee shop along Burmah Road (few shops away from the current Mekio Furniture Shop, for the old timers will know that's the Rex Theater), ie. The Simpler Life. For those that understand Mandarin, they will know or have heard of this coffee shop 槟城车水路海安茶室.
The history of this stall is actually originated from Pitt Street and it was managed by the father. Perhaps due to high demand, they have actually branched out into several places in the island. Well the one in Hai Oan coffee shop is managing by the son and the daughter-in-law.

And for all you know this is one of the famous one in Penang Island (hehehhe... and it's also my favourite koay teow th'ng). Every time I revisit the stall, I always asked for extra chilies, and I could finish the entire bowl of soup too.

You could see from the picture that it says their fish balls are home made, and price are reasonable too. For a bowl of Koay Teow Th'ng with fish balls is only RM2-50, small bowl is only RM2-00.

Of course KTT is not for the sick, it's soooo good, with springy fish balls, fish cakes, and some with my favorite duck blood.

I have never tried this Pitt Street KTT, the fish balls look very fresh and succulent. I will try it the next time I go back to Penang. :)

Thanks for posting this. :)

I cook my own koay teow th'ng. It's pretty easy, and healthy.
Before I reply, pls allow my apology. I was actually over looked the comments from Rasa M'sia, Jackson and Celine.

Hi RM - The Pitt Street KTT is actually the originator of this Burmah Road KTT.

Hi Jackson - Penang Food price is still reasonable to certain extend. However the portion is rather small compared to Ipoh & KL.

Hello Celine - Welcome to my blog and glad that you commentted. Home cook food is always healthy.
Well, do drop by more often. :-)
