Home Cook Steam Chicken with Red Dates & Wolfberries

You know when comes to cook for 2 persons, you will tend to wonder how much food should I prepare and how many dishes should we have for 2 persons. If, we are cooking for a bunch of people like 4 to 6, that would be more easy to manage.

I know steaming food is always easy to cook, everything just steam steam and steam. No other ways of doing it, you don’t need to worry will it be tasted good or bad.

Let me share this with you today, Mom’s recipe – Steam Chicken with Red Dates and Wolfberries.

It’s simple and easy to make.

Ingredients
2 Chicken Legs + Thigh
1 Hand full red dates
2 Table spoons full of wolfberries
Few slices of Chinese Angelica Sinensis Root (Dong Quai)
Salt

a. Clean the chicken with salt first

b. And, chop it into pieces

c. Marinate with salt, more for taste

d. Wash the red dates with hot water

e. Wash the wolfberries with cold water

f. After marinate for about 30mins, place the pieces of chicken on the plate and put red dates and wolfberries on top of it

g. Put those Dong Quai in between the chicken

h. Steam for about 15 to 20minutes

Do you realize you do not need to add any oil on it once it’s done, cuz, while you steam the chicken oil will automatically flow out.

Another way of doing it, is to add 2 table spoons of Brandy or XO after steamed then served. That’s is also helping one to have a better blood circulation. Mostly confinement food will be like that.

I cook the similar dish last Saturday, but in different method. I wrap up all the ingredients including kampung chicken, red dates, tung sheng and wolfberries in aluminium foil, and steamed for 20minutes.
Man cannot eat Dong Quai la.

This is my fav. Chicken leg will yield tender meat. The dong quai and some brandy are also very important components.

I agree with you that some time it is hard to cook for just two persons. lol So usually I cooked simple dishes too. I also cook sort of similar steam chicken but I add some other herbs in there too. lol

I like to cook this dish too because it's simple and not much afterwards cleaning is required. But I didn't put any dong guai.
