Maple Gold Restaurant

I know I have not been updating this for ages… and now Chinese New Year is past overdue, and it’s coming to March now. This is one of the long, overdue, outdated post that I could call. This is a family lunch that we had some time on the 3rd day of Chinese New Year in Maple Gold Restaurant. This restaurant is located along Northam Road aka the rich man’s road, and it’s just opposite the Open University too. Apart from Chinese New Year dishes, basically nothing much we could order.

First dish is the famous Yu Sung, apparently this is a must have dish for every people during Chinese New Year. In fact, this was pretty well accepted in the recent years. In fact, I remember clearly when I was small, in the early 80’s and 70’s this was pretty famous for Cantonese family. But now, it’s getting so commercialize.

Shark fin soup can never be got away as 2nd dish. I was a bit puzzled when they served this as 2nd dish, cuz, normally all restaurant will serve four seasons first.

After this, that come along is the Four Season Platter.

The roasted chicken coming next then. I was busy eating and forgot about taking pictures, ended up this is what you see. So embarrass of me.

Braised mushrooms with bamboo shoots and vegetables is the one of the must have dish in any restaurant.
The next serving is fried garlic prawns. Some how many of us find this was just so-so. Probably they didn’t fried the garlic till fragrant before they put the prawns.

Fried rice with preserved meat is something that I will rather have mom to cook for us than eating out. First, mom will prepare lots of those Chinese sausages, meat, shredded waxed duck meat, and steam together with rice. Once it’s done, she will add on sesame oil for that pot of rice. With that, you wouldn’t miss 2 to 3 bowl of rice.

Last, dessert. Realized many restaurants now serves sea coconut and longan as dessert. Wonder is it a norm for Penang restaurant.

Well, overall the food was ok, nothing to shout about neither there is anything to complain too. After all, it’s a family lunch and of course, all of us enjoyed the company of each other. That’s what we call it family, don’t we?

i think the food quality here has dropped. used to be very good. i went there late last year and was all excited to take photos and do a review...but i was so disappointed with the food i didn't even bother taking photos... maybe we ordered the wrong dishes la. but it used to be a lot better.

yum yum! The garlic prawns and the rice looks soo good.
Hi Sugarbean, if they till fried the garlic till it's fragrant, am sure the prawns would be even delicious.

Hi Jeromefo, thks for dropping by. You can cook in London dont you?

Hi Celine, why?? You should give it a try.

Hi Buzzingbee, thks for dropping by. Ya, their serving is kinda big.

Hi Lingzie, not sure about the food quality. But the lunch that we had, it wasn't really that superb, but it wasn't that bad either. Guess they still maintain the certain quality of it.

Hi Daphne, dont let the fried rice blind folded you. Looks good, but aint that good. :)
