Christmas has just passed, so, how do you all spend it? I had a good one in fact, yes, again it’s in KL. Well, this is more of a remembrance of what we had spent last year, especially with the Mama Mia’s musical stage was on the hit last year.

2009_12_24 Gonbei 027a

1st stop was lunch in Starhill Gallery on Christmas Eve… a sumptuous lunch with Abalone Sashimi as appetizer which is on the house some more. That gives all of us a indulge feeling. Not to forget that 2nd plate of Abalone Sashimi is only costs RM38 per piece, all Abalones are imported from Chile.

2009_12_24 Gonbei 025a

Next, followed by a variety of sashimi, with the range of White Tuna, Red Tuna and Salmons. Look at the size of these assorted sashimi… I would have to comment that I doubt I could find such generous sashimi in Penang.

2009_12_24 Gonbei 032a 2009_12_24 Gonbei 030a 2009_12_24 Gonbei 031b

Grilled items like Mackerel, Salmons, and Unagi (Eel). It’s juicy and tender.

2009_12_24 Gonbei 036a 2009_12_24 Gonbei 037a

Fried items like Tempura, we have Prawns and Soft Shell Crabs. The prawns are fresh and it’s big in sizes too, and that goes to the crabs as well.

2009_12_24 Gonbei 041a 2009_12_24 Gonbei 042a

Teppanyaki items are the butter garlic fried prawns and salmons.

Other items that we had were Teriyaki Chicken, Japanese Soft Tofu, Temaki (Handroll Tuna & Salmon) and Green Peas (Edamame 枝豆 えだまめ).

2009_12_24 Gonbei 055a 2009_12_24 Gonbei 052a

With all the food that we had, honestly, we could easily skip dinner. We were so full, … well that’s not the end, we were served Green Tea Ice Cream with Red Beans, and also assorted local fruits, papaya, watermelon, honeydew and pineapple.

Though I heard of people commented the service and food are lousy, but honestly, it was superb to us. The service was attentive, and the food serving is value for money too.

Blue Reef

2009_11_27 Blue Reef 006a

What makes me happy when I take my family for dinner or lunch, they find the food is value for money and the food is absolutely delicious!

I don’t need to review much about their food, in fact, they are pretty reputable in the area, with the word spread around, email exchange or speculations, in fact every night they were full, and you ought to make reservation to dine in here too.

One of the long weekend I took my family to all the way to Tanjong Bungah for dinner, and this place is not any stranger to anyone that stays around the area. Yes, am talking about Blue Reef.

What’s their signature? Basically Fish & Chips (RM16.00), and look at the serving, it’s basically an Aussie’s size. If you’re small eater, best to share with another person. Cuz, honestly the generosity in giving the food is honestly grateful.

What they have is either beer battered or bread crumbed. In fact, I like the bread crump version, probably due to the crunchiness. When I first took this Fish & Chips, I was pretty skeptical about the freshness of the fish, well, to my surprise, the fish is fresh and mostly are imported, and the way they deep fried, the batter lock down the freshness and the meat is tender too. It’s a must to have.

2009_11_27 Blue Reef 021a

Smoked Black Pepper Tuna Salad (RM15.00) is something unique and the vegetables are refreshing despite the salty smoked tuna. It gives a pleasant combination too!

2009_11_27 Blue Reef 014a 2009_11_27 Blue Reef 011a

What best to eat with a bowl of hot soup?? With hubby’s ordering food, he will never miss out the Garlic Bread (RM5.00) & a bowl of soup, beat it is Mushroom or even this… Pumpkin Soup (RM8.00).

2009_11_27 Blue Reef 015a

Aglio Olio with Prawns (RM16.00) is something new, in fact, it replaces what they earlier have, that’s Aglio Olio with Bacons. Due to the operation change in the kitchen, they have replaced with this new pasta. Well, for that matter of fact, this isn’t that bad, but a bit dry that’s all.

2009_11_27 Blue Reef 038a

Glazed Paprika Chicken (RM17.00)… sometimes you find it weird to have chicken meal in a fishy restaurant… but this piece of chicken it’s absolutely impressing my family! The meat is tender and juicy!

2009_11_27 Blue Reef 031a

Grilled Barramundi (White Seabass) (RM19.00) is the cheaper version of grilled fish; of course, they have other choices like Garoupa, or even Alaskan Codfish.

2009_11_27 Blue Reef 032a

Oh ya, there’s one more item that you wouldn’t want to miss… A Salmon Burger (RM19.00)! I honestly have not seen a Salmon Burger before, not to mention to taste. But this is definitely a good one. The Salmon pâté (patty) is well cook; you would not find any dryness of the cooked paté. And it’s absolutely fragrant; I could taste some onions in it.

Have you ever thought a kiddy’s size of meal? Check this out…. Kiddy’s size Fish & Chips,… it ain’t small! Right?? And it’s only costs RM10.00.

Fun Tea Garden

2009_12_18 Tea Garden 056a

It was indeed an honor invitation from Criz to celebrate his 2nd blogniversary on 18 December 2009, a fun gathering, lucky draw for invited guests, and also variety of food tasting too. It’s basically variety of dim sum and also noodle tasting.

2009_12_18 Tea Garden 060 (steam)

Variety down from steam items like siu mai, har kau, and many other more.

2009_12_18 Tea Garden 059 (Fried)

Apart from steam items, we were also served the pan fried, baked or deep fried items like, prawn fritters, and egg tarts, spring rolls, many others more.

2009_12_18 Tea Garden 049a 2009_12_18 Tea Garden 041a 2009_12_18 Tea Garden 040a 2009_12_18 Tea Garden 048a 2009_12_18 Tea Garden 044a 2009_12_18 Tea Garden 045a

How could we miss out Chinese bun as in Bao in Dim Sum, right? We were served the normal Char Siu Bao (Barbeque Pork Bun), Pork Bun, and Fermented Pork Bun (南乳包).

As mentioned noodle tasting is also part of the anniversary celebration, thus a couple of fried noodle were served… and the clicking sound from the cameras could be heard from one to another.

2009_12_18 Tea Garden 026a

First was served the Penang so called ‘Hokkien Char’. It was tasty and delicious, with their specially made sambal chili, it’s a heavenly match.

2009_12_18 Tea Garden 028a

Followed by Crispy Noodle, Cantonese called this Sang Mee. First they will deep fried the noodle and then pour the sautéed sauce on the crispy noodle.

2009_12_18 Tea Garden 032a 2009_12_18 Tea Garden 031a

Apart from the above mentioned, Fried Yee Mee is their signature.

In fact, I find that all the noodles are their signature. Why then? Reason is simple, and with only one reason! Basically what makes this noodle flavourful and tasty it’s the wok heat, otherwise, you would not be able to taste such a good fried noodle.

2009_12_18 Tea Garden 053a 2009_12_18 Tea Garden 051a

Even the next noodle that served is just a simple Char Hor Fun, and it’s honestly delicious.

This gathering not only celebrates 2nd anniversary, but also a gathering for all the bloggers. A gathering that forge bloggers unity, exchange ideas in terms of photo shooting, context of food post, etc.

Before I end this post, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year... those that travelling, drive safely!
