Yeng Keng Café and Bar

2010_10_23 Yeng Keng 010a 2010_10_23 Yeng Keng 024a

Come to think of it, you ought to be more adventurous in your own life. If I don’t drove passed this area, perhaps I will never know there’s a boutique hotel down here and it’s solely own by Datuk Ong Gim Huat.

Visited this place once, but at that point in time, they don’t serve any meal, even for daily breakfast, it’s the hotel staff that went out and packed back for their guests. Perhaps this is one of the uniqueness of this hotel.

When we dropped by the second time, we noticed they have added the café service for their in-house guests as well as walk in guests too.

2010_10_23 Yeng Keng 029a 2010_10_23 Yeng Keng 030a

Can’t comment much on their food quality, but one thing for sure, they have plenty of room for improvement. Though we are not really a Hainan cuisine fan, but we do enjoy it once in awhile. For example the mushroom soup which I’d ordered. Light meal for the day, especially lunch, but it can never go wrong with a slice of garlic bread (RM6-00). In fact, that’s much fulfilling.

2010_10_23 Yeng Keng 025a

Hubby finds their coffee (RM5-00) was pretty smooth, and aromatic as well. Well, you will not doubt on Illy coffee, don’t you?? Especially freshly brew and the fragrant smell could make you feel like you’re in heaven.

2010_10_23 Yeng Keng 036a 2010_10_23 Yeng Keng 038a

Hainan Style Chicken Chop (RM15-00). Actually, I’ve been wondering… is there any difference compared to Western Style Chicken Chop?

2010_10_23 Yeng Keng 031a 2010_10_23 Yeng Keng 035a

Hainanese Mushroom Soup (RM10-00) is completely different from what we normally see in Western Café or Bistro. It has chicken meat, even chicken liver and glass noodle too, and of course with the spring onions that garnishing the soup. I wonder is this easy to make?

If you’re not really fussy about air-condioning place for a meal, this isn’t a bad place to recommend. In fact, in the evening, you could see many tourists walking along the street and enjoying every moment they could find in this heritage area.

Ta-Krai Café

2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 001a 2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 005a 2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 004a 2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 006a

This is my 1st visit to Ta-Krai Café that’s located in Juru Auto City. Been wanting to visit this place for a long long time, but many times, my suggestion was turn down. However this trip, I insisted to try out the food which is operated by Log that is next to Ta-Krai Café.

Ta-Krai Café is managed by Log and it was established for almost 2 to 3 years. From the external, hardly could see anyone dine in during lunch especially on the weekends, however, it’s basically full house during working days. Perhaps the surrounding customers around Prai Industrial Estate is visiting this place for lunch and also Friday night, you will see a lot more customers dining there.

As I mentioned before, I am not really a Thai food fan, however, once in awhile will definitely yearning for it, perhaps I like the spiciness.

2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 009a 2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 010a

Anyway, a simple appetizer to start off the lunch, Prawn in Bread (RM5-00), some people call it prawn toast. Many would want this as snacks especially with a group of friends drinking beer or wine.

2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 021a

While we were viewing through the menu, they were recommended Kheng Som Pla Tup Tim (RM25-00), it’s a deep fried fish and cooked with Thai special sauce. It wasn’t that spicy, but it does has its kick as in sourish. This is also cook with cauliflower, and other vegetables as well.

2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 026a

When you’re into Thai Restaurant, Tom Yam soup (RM10-00) is something that you didn’t want to miss. And that goes to me too. A Tom Yam Seafood Soup that is made of sourish broth, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, fish sauce, crushed chilies, etc and cooked with assorted seafood like fish, squid, prawns and so on, that will make the soup tasty and mouth watering.

2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 014a

Other than the spicy food, Fried Kailan with Prawns (RM8-00) is something simple, guess many places will have this dish.

2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 031a

Takrai Chicken (RM12-00) – Lemongrass Chicken, something different from what we normally seen in the menu, and it’s easily make too.

2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 020a

Since everyone is going for steam rice, I wanted to have something different thus a Ta-Krai Fried Rice (6-90) was specially ordered.

2010_09_12 Ta-Krai Cafe 008a

A glass of Amra Juice is also refreshing after a hot spicy meal on a hot sunny day.

Cintra Street Porridge

2010_12_23 Cintra Street Porridge 001a 2010_12_23 Cintra Street Porridge 005a

I remembered when I first moved in, nothing has been settled down, yet we got to go back to work, and at that point in time, almost every night we were out for food. And back to this Oriental Island after so many years, honestly we both were like any other strangers hard to find food. And around that time, surprisingly it rains every now and then, and that even gave us more hard time to crack our head where to find comfort food.

However I remember I read the article from CK and Food Paradise about this stall. Hence, I told hubby let’s try that out after all, on such weather, porridge is the best choice of food.

2010_12_23 Cintra Street Porridge 012a

Of course the taste of the porridge did not disappoint us, and in fact, it really warmth up our stomach on such a cold weather at that time.

2010_12_23 Cintra Street Porridge 003a 2010_12_23 Cintra Street Porridge 009a

With another plate of porch chicken, that garnished with ginger slices and sesame oil. What can I ask for more of such heavenly feeling?

喜洋城 Hei Yeong Seng Chinese Restaurant

2011_02_13 Hei Yeong Seng 001a 2011_02_13 Hei Yeong Seng 002a

Hei Yeong Seng Chinese Restaurant is a new restaurant that recently opened its door for business in Penang Plaza, Burmah Road. Since, the plaza has refurbished and renovated, it gives many people a fresh look. At least, it attracts more visitors with one restaurant down there. Otherwise, it’s just another dead town.

Yesterday was our first visit and it’s also a birthday celebration for mother-in-law. And, I would have to say that my sister-in-law that arranged this meal has done a very good job.

2011_02_13 Hei Yeong Seng 017a

When comes to birthday, birthday noodle is a must for many birthday person. It represents the longevity for them, some even believe the noodle should not be cut. Since, it’s a big bowl of Lam Mee, the waiter was kind enough to scoop it out into a small bowl for all of us. And the taste was unbelievable very nice. At least it has captured all our good comments on this bowl of noodle.

After the bowl of longevity noodle, the rest that comes on to the Lazy Susan was a simple dishes yet full of understanding thought that my sister-in-law arranged.

All the above dishes are best to have it with steamed rice, and honestly, that makes many of them have add on rice. Am sure any mother would loves to see that.

2011_02_13 Hei Yeong Seng 030a

What’s best to end a dinner … it’s a simple dessert. Soya Bean with Gingko. The Soya Bean drink wasn’t too sweat, it was just nice and the Gingko was tender. Apart from the dessert, full of laughter was the key of family harmony.

Happy Chap Goh Meh!!!

Home Cooked Wanton Mee

2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 016a 2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 021a 2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 017a 2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 015a

On a Valentine Day, many couples will spend some time for dinner, whether it’s a sumptuous candle light dinner or simple one. I think this would be one of our unforgettable one. Well, why would I say that… have you seen a couple staying at home not having candle light dinner but home cooked Wanton Mee?

2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 002a

Oh ya, don’t laugh over it, but that’s true that we both are enjoying 13 wantons each and a plate of Wanton Mee.

I got all these ingredients from Jaya Jusco, Queensbay Mall, except minced meat from Jelutong Market. Best to get such ingredients in the wet market, some how I find it fresher.

To marinate the 200g minced meat, I used oyster sauce, pinch of sugar and 1 teaspoon of corn flour to marinate for 30 minutes.

2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 004a

Wrap these meats with wontan skin and keep aside. Boil a pot of water to boil these wantons. For my case, I use a wok to boil, for that matter, I find that it’s easier to manage, and also it boils quicker too.

2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 007a 2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 011a

What mom taught me was when we put all these wantons in the boiling water, it will sink, once it’s cooked, it will be floating. It’s about 3 to 5 minutes, depending your size of the wantons.

2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 019a

Once cooked, add 1 tablespoon of garlic oil and half table spoon of sesame oil. Add light soya sauce instead of pinch of salt, and add on ground pepper if you like the taste of it.

After that, I boil another pot of water to cook on the noodle.

2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 005a

Remember to prepare another pot of cold water for cooling the cooking process, my mother told me that is actually clearing the alkaline in the noodle, and some how that’s make the noodle even more crunchy when consume.

Cook the noodle for 2 to 3 minutes, transfer the noodle to the cold water for cooling the process and then after transfer it back to the hot boiling water, losing the noodles and set it on the serving plate.

2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 006a 2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 001a

If you’re not an oily fan, just add half table spoon of garlic and sesame oil respectively. Half table spoon of dark soya sauce and light soya sauce, mix well and garnish with spring onions.

2011_02_14 Home Cooked Wanton Mee 023a

And that’s our Valentine meal.

Happy Valentine folks!!
