Louis Café

If your name is Louis, the more you should visit this Louis Café at Argyll Road. A café that’s only open barely 2 months old, and it’s managed by Madam Teoh whom has a thought of having her own restaurant and cater for friends and business associates to get to enjoy the food and her companion too.

She has a great passion in making lots of friends, and by doing so, she also loves to invite friends for a meal and for a chat too. With that in mind that’s how she has Louis Café.

On Sunday 8th February, Penang Flogger Community had invited for a food review, I was invited too, unfortunately I was having a bad cough thus I was not able to join the group. However, with much anticipation from the group’s review, without 2nd thought, hubby and I went there after work yesterday.

When we were handed the menu, honestly, we were really have no idea what to choose. Madam Teoh was attentive and she came forward and recommended a few for us too.

I was pretty attracted by the Scallop Salad that appears in the menu, and it’s only costs RM20 with 4 to 5 pieces of scallop and with the dash of mango salsas on top of it.

My main course is Spaghetti Arrabiata that is pasta with chili, slices bacon, and assorted wild mushroom in spicy tomato sauce. It costs RM16 which I find it reasonable.

Hubby opted the Set Dinner which is only RM26 with comprises of Soup of the Day, Appetizer, Choice of Main Course, Dessert and either Soft Drinks of Fresh Fruit Juice.

Soup of the Day is Pumpkin Soup. Hubby loves it as it’s creamy and with a few of the almond flakes and it really accommodate to the taste.

Appetizer is Garden Greens with Thousand Island Salad Cream.

Choice of Main Course, hubby chose Chicken Cutlet. A crispy at the outer layer and a tender juicy inside. I actually fell in love with this, though he chose black pepper, but I find it incredibly nice without the sauce.

Last dessert, single scoop of ice cream. It was something nice and sweet to end a meal.

It is still few days more for Valentine Day, and Louis Café also introduce a V-day Special Menu for all the loving couple who like to celebrate this special day with their love one. If you’re looking longevity in the relationship, Louis Café is the place for you. Valentine Day Menu only RM99 per couple, and if you’re lucky enough, you’ll get a 10% off for 1st 15 couples.

Apart from that, they are also serving Set Lunch and Dinner daily with different sets of menu. And also serves snacks and Asian Delights.

Here are some pictures that I took last night on the café’s surrounding and it’s environment. Isn’t good to enjoy your pleasant moment down here?

Kim Hee Chinese Restaurant 金禧樓冷氣海鮮酒家

For those that working in other states, normally will be back to their home on 3rd day of Chinese New Year, that’s why mom was suggesting let’s eat out for the day.

Since most of the famous restaurant in town is either fully booked or yet to open for business, we decided to give it a try in this Kim Hee Restaurant which is located in Bandar Sunway Seberang Jaya where it nears Sunway Carnival Mall.

Salmon Yee Sang is a must since it’s new year still. I particularly like this picture, don’t know why, probably you could see people happily Lou Sang. If am not mistaken I remember Lingzie had something like this before.

Other dishes that came along after the Yee Sang is Curry Fish Head, which is the best among the rest that we’ve ordered. The curry paste was extremely spicy and aromatic smell too.

Steam Cod Fish for the kids. Nicely done up… the kids just loved it.

Stir Fry Venison Meat with Spring Onions.

Some greens, Stir Fry China Kailan.

Pipa Chicken (琵琶雞) which is a replica of Pipa Duck (琵琶鴨). This dish was suck! The sauce was too sweet, and it didn’t blend well with the chicken. In fact, we made a complaint to the captain when she came to our table and asked how are the dishes and all that. Guess what… there’s a complimentary dessert after the complaint.

After all that… the complimentary dessert here it comes… Peanut Paste Dessert (花生糊) and Chinese Pancake (鍋餅). Some may find the soup is little too sweet, but to me if dessert is not sweet enough it ain’t call it dessert anymore, right? Personally loves it, but it obviously can’t compete those typical authentic Cantonese or Chinese Restaurant way of doing it. Anyway, who cares, it’s a complimentary dessert!!

Total damage: RM269.90

大年初二, 開年飯 2nd day of Chinese New Year

Reunion Dinner @ Vistana Hotel

Though times are bad, but you will see lots of people eating out instead of having reunion at home. I hope that’s the sign of helping the economy, however, from these years you could see many Chinese restaurants are actually opening up for biz on New Year’s Eve. As far as I know, restaurants like Forum Chinese Cuisine Restaurant in Island Plaza is opening, East Hakkaido Seafood Restaurant that located in Jalan Bagan Jermal is opening too. Those years, only hotels’ Chinese restaurant will cater for such needs, but now, you could see times are bad, people are even opening up for such occasion.

My in law are old to cater for a major reunion for the family, thus these years, the sons decided to eat out instead of having the hassle at home. This year, we have arranged it in Vistana Hotel located in Bukit Jambul.

When we were told to dine in Vistana, first thought was has Vistana Hotel has any Chinese restaurant?? Never thought they could arrange it in a ballroom with all tables setup nicely.

Anyway, when comes to Chinese New Year package, nothing could missed out the Chinese Yee Sang. This is always the first dish. Sorry didn’t manage to take any picture as was busy eating. [LOL]

Followed by the sequence below….

Braised Shark Fin Soup with Crab Meat & Shredded Chicken Meat

Deep Fried Chicken with Kerabu in Thai Style

Steamed Golden Promfret with King Soya Sauce

Two Variety of Mushrooms and Bean Curd Skin in Forever Green

Pan-Fried White Prawns with Home Made Sauce

Authentic Fried Rice in “Kwang Thong” Style

Chilled Dried Longan with Lotus Seed, Lily Bulb & White Fungus

I was told the entire package was costs about RM239++, the food is nothing to shout about, more of get together for the reunion.

Oh yes, in between the session there was this Lion Dance and singing performance.

Ichyo Ramen Restaurant

I know I left a comment on Food Diary of Picky Eater before on Ichyo Ramen Restaurant in i-Avenue for saying that I would like to try out one of these days.

Well, since today is my 1st day of work after the long break, I had a very disappointed and angry experience.

Guess how long have I waited and what kind of treatment have I got?

All in, I’ve waited 1 hour for 2 bowl of ramen, and on top of that, we have asked the waitress how long should we wait for the ramen. None of them get back to us, they were all saying let us find out from the kitchen. Till the last moment, we find it really ridiculous to wait further, we asked the owner. The man with dark blue long sleeve shirt came to our table, we asked again, how long should we wait for the 2 bowl of ramen. And the man with his arrogant attitude answered us, ‘Oh, if you can’t wait, then can’t wait, lor!’

My goodness, what kind of service is that, especially in this industry and especially at this point in time. Market is so bad now and people are tightening their belt for not spending unnecessary, and yet this people simply throw the last refuge of modest and chaste relations for not reasoning a customer disatisfaction when in fact their service is at questionable doubt. Come on....you are in a service industry, what else but to provide customer satisfaction, no question ask.

What a lunch on 4th day of CNY!

CNY Cookies: Green Pea Nuts Cookies

My sister has been wanting to make Green Peanut cookies by herself, she likes this cookies so much so that she can wacked everything on her own.

With her anticipation of making this, I direct Lilian’s recipe to her.

The entire work was started from 4pm and ended at 9pm plus. The most tedious part or rather difficult part is the removing the nut’s skin. Like what Lilian said, mostly colouring are on the skin itself. And my sis really follows what Lilian did, she bought those kacang putih instead of pre-make ingredients.

Anyway, once the skins are removed, we grinded it as fine as possible.

Start weighing all the ingredients and lump everything into the mixing bowl. Once blend well, we added the measured corn oil into the dry ingredients.

Then mix again. Lilian also said in her blog that it has to be knead well, if it gets crumble easily, add some more oil.

Then after, we roll the dough into tiny balls. The sizes of the balls are difference from one after another, well, after all it’s a non-sale items, isn’t it?

Oh ya, remember to preheat the oven at 170°C for about 15 to 20 minutes, and then bake those tiny balls for that temperature and bake for that duration.

And ta-da… here’s the finished products!!! Drool??

The Best Koay Teow Th'ng in Chai Leng Park - Heng Kee 興記

Where’s the busiest street in Butterworth apart from Jalan Raja Uda, where people call that Apolo. I can’t think of anywhere but Wai Sik Kai in Chai Leng Park. This is the busiest street so far that I know.

In fact, how many knows about this street’s history?? I guess not many. In the 70’s this Wai Sik Kai wasn’t exist, and their original place is actually in front of the 1st row of shop houses in Chai Leng Park, where Penang Tua Pui blogged about the Yong Heng Char Hor Fun.

Some how those stalls were asked to move to this place after 8 to 9 years of operation. And that’s how Wai Sik Kai in Chai Leng Park was named.

So, what’s the best down on the street there?? In fact, there are many… but I always find this is the best stall among all. Know this uncle & aunty for a long time, and they have been selling Koay Teow Th’ng for almost 30 over years, so you can imagine are they the best in this street.

My mom particularly like this stall of Koay Teow Th’ng, she doesn’t know why, but if you take her to Wai Sik Kai, she only likes to go back to this stall.

Apart from just koay teow, yellow noodle and rice vermicelli, they have other extra add on like deep fried giant wanton and bean curd skin. Why I call it giant wanton, … indeed a giant size. [LOL]

You can also add on chicken and bean sprouts too as a side dish.

A bowl of this Koay Teow Th’ng, you can see the stall owner is not stingy about the food and charging it expensively, in fact, it’s worth the value. If am not mistaken a bowl of this koay teow th’ng without the giant wanton, but only bean curd skin is about RM4.00.

The stall is opening slightly late, they only starts to operate from 7.30pm or 8pm till midnight. The first few stall from the street entrance, and it’s easy to recognize too, a white hair uncle and wife managing the stall – Heng Kee.
