Burps and Giggles… I believe many Ipohan knows about this is a new venture of Ms Julie Song. So, who is Julie Song? She’s the BOSS of Indulgence, and then the next question pops up is what is Indulgence? Indulgence is a fine dining restaurant in Tambun Road, Ipoh. A place where you could see lots of high profile people from Ipoh patronized.

Been to Ipoh many times, and all these while, I am eating on home cooked food or street food that I don’t even have a chance to try out other food which Motormouth From Ipoh recommends from his blog. But this time, I am going to try out this place, Burps & Giggles!

What actually caught my attention were the free and easy feels, and the simple decoration. Tables and chairs are simply got it from elsewhere, … well, that’s what I personally believe. A table without the top, but it can be fixed with a kitchen door. A water tap can be fixed it with a copper pipe and slightly bend it with a special design. Isn’t that a brilliant idea?? And that has actually caught many photographers to visit this place…

     

I’ve not come across any place that doesn’t have a menu!!!! Yes, this is it… Burps and Giggles! A place without a menu and what it serves are mainly BURGERS!!! You can choose it from the black board which they have written down and with the price too. Choices are from beef, lamb, chicken, fish and even Portobello. And each of this has a beautiful name, for example for the beef burger, they named it Bam Bam, mushroom burger is Bello, fish is Harvey and others too.

Apart from burgers, they have other pastries, which are placed at the other side of the corner.  Bottom line, NO MENU in this place! Even drinks are all written on board, whatever you want, just take a look and order.

Since our loved one has left us, we hardly go back to this place… the place that earned its fortune in tin trade. But we do drop by if we are on the way to the city – KL. No doubt Ipoh food is always nice, and hearty, at least it does to me, especially their bean sprout chicken, Foh San Dim Sum, etc.

I always wanted to take my favourite Kong Heng Popiah and many times I will either lost my way or turn to the wrong junction. Then ended up I gave up for another food. Of course, Nam Heong of Jalan Bandar Timah isn’t that bad choice if you are looking for Ipoh White Coffee.

Let me make the comparison between Ipoh and Penang food … here goes….

Ipoh Chee Cheong Fun is different from Penang’s type. Penang will add shrimp paste and other sauces, but Ipoh will add green chilies and some curry sauces, that’s make it so unique that you wouldn’t decline to have one.

Ipoh Char Koay Teow will have to give way to Penang’s one. Cuz, it will never have the Penang’s aroma, even though they fried like Penang’s way. Some how, something is missing some where. Can you spot anything missing?

Ipoh Curry Mee is also another noodle that is different from Penang too. Penang will add long beans, tau kua and Cantonese called it Tau Foo Pok, and soup base has strong coconut milk. Where as Ipoh Curry Mee has more spices and stronger aroma too. Another tip that will tell you that this doesn’t belong to Penang Curry Mee, that’s the lime that squeeze in the soup.

Ipoh Hor Fun (Flat Noodle 怡保雞絲河粉) is Ipoh’s signature. Penang Koay Teow Th’ng could never beat them. I wonder why? Perhaps Ipoh Hor Fun added some shrimps into their stock that makes the soup base fragrant and tasty. Even so, their flat noodle is smooth and nice. One could think of the water that they use to make noodle. Many were speculating they were using mountain water for making it, but, how true would that again? Right?

I have been wanted to write about my family favorite place for a long time… guess this is the right time for this post. Sun Marpoh Restaurant that’s located in Ipoh Garden it’s the place for many neighborhood’s favorite place for lunch or dinner. A place where you could find food that is reasonable and it’s big serving too.

I’ve always admire this neighborhood, as even on Chinese New Year eve they are open for business. So that has actually taken off the headache for many people. In fact, they have been here for a very long long time.

This is the place where we gathered recently with our relatives and friends for lunch. A simple home cooked food were ordered and served with steam rice.

Not to forget a Loh Sang (撈生) for a start. Each one of us is wishing to have good luck, good fortune and good health.

Followed by other dishes… like vegetables, meats, etc served right after the Yee Sang Toasting.

Stir Fry Asparagus with assorted mushrooms.

Chicken Broth Milk Cabbage (奶白上湯).

Braised Bean Curd (紅燒豆腐).

Fermented Soya Bean Steam Fish (豆醬蒸魚)

Deep Fried Pork Knuckle (油浸鹹豬手) with Fried Man Tou (饅頭) and special sauce.

Ginger Steam Chicken (薑濃雞).

Butter Prawns (奶油蝦).

Though the dishes are simple but the company for the lunch, the get together’s value that make this lunch happy.

Bee’s Home Café

~ Closed for Business ~

Bee’s Home Café – a very nice name. But when you come to think of it, Bee’s Home isn’t it call Bee Hives?

Well, don’t ever look down on this little bee’s hive that am going to share… it’s a place full of honey and lots of good food.

Why would I say so?! I used to have sleeping disorder problem… and have been having this problem since schooling time. But after taking the honey that is locally extracted in Malacca, honestly, now I have quality sleep. Well, the person in charge will advise which type of honey to consume… different type of honey for different type of problems. For boosting your memory, Propolis Honey is the one that he recommended; Royal Honey is the one for easing your sleep.

Apart from Honey, food there is reasonably cheap and tasty.

I remember I read J2Kfm’s post before that they have Sharon’s Laksa. That actually caught my attention. And that was my main reason to check out this place.

It’s a quiet place for meal, small but pleasant. A small corner displays all the types of bees, and also some honey that extracted from these. And out there, they have man made pool, fountain, etc. it’s a nice place to hang around with friends.

When I looked thru the menu, basically it’s variety to choose, and prices are reasonable also.

What I have was Sharon’s Laksa, but what puzzle me was, it comes with 2 rolls of deep fried bean curd skin for you to dip into the soup. It’s totally different from Penang, huh?

Hubby has Stir Fry Lou Shu Fun. He said it’s very fragrant and the taste is up to his expectation.

When you’re in such place, of course you’ll have their honey drink. Right?
