Bora-Bora Restaurant 卜拉茶餐室

~ The stall has terminated their  business ~

Chee Cheong Fun (Rice Noodle Roll 豬腸粉) is a type of noodle that many people knows, especially in different states, it prepares differently. A very good example, Penang style of Chee Cheong Fun is come with 2 types of sauces where it has the shrimp paste and black sweet sauce (甜酱, timzheong, it is likely a variation of hoisin sauce. Source from Wikipedia), and also sprinkle of sesame, peanut and fried shallots. In Ipoh, way of preparing Chee Cheong Fun is also different from Penang too. What Ipoh has is come with curry sauce, or even sweet sauce, green chilies, chili sauce, sesame, etc.

Some stalls are creative will have Chee Cheong Fun in Curry Soup. I bet many have tried this version before. But have you ever try it on Hokkien Mee Soup then?

Soup base is home made, and it’s the authentic way of preparing it, example, peel off the prawns shell and blend with chili and fry it, most important is without MSG.

It isn’t difficult to find this special Chee Cheong Fun in fact, it’s around in town. And it’s located in Bora Bora too…

Hahaha… let’s not fool anyone… but the fact is this Bora Bora Coffee Shop that located behind Eastin Hotel has this special Hokkien Mee, it’s Chee Cheong Fun in Hokkien Mee Soup.

What it has in the bowl is shrimp, eggs, char siew, fried shallots, beans sprout and so on. If you want additional egg that would be RM0-60, char siew is RM1-00. This special bowl of Hokkien Mee will only available for this month only, as the Tau Keh Soh will be returning back to school and giving her dedicated care to the kindy, which requested by many parents.

This special bowl of Chee Cheong Fun is only costs RM3-00. So, grab it fast before it’s too late.

Recently made way for the new outlet in Queensbay Mall and now the new neighbor for Sakae Sushi that located at 2nd floor on the Central Zone. Guess who is this?? It has also featured in HoChak program in TV8 also.

Yup!! That’s right!
Xian Ding Wei is the new outlet right now that occupying the former Swenson’s unit in Queensbay Mall. It offers all Taiwanese local food like 3-cup chicken, Oyster & Large Intestines Vermicelli, Beef Noodle, etc. You don’t need a passport to travel all the way to Taiwan to savor the authentic Taiwan food, but instead with what Xian Ding Wei offers, that could definitely satisfy your gluttonous instinct.

What’s make known to many people about Taiwan is 3 cup chicken (三杯雞), well at least for me it does. 3 cups is actually the sauce that use for cooking this dish, for example soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar and added basil leaf, that’s why it named after it.

Variety of meal sets for customers to choose from. They even offer mini Monk Jump Over Wall (迷你佛跳牆), mini steamboat, and so on.

I’ve been there twice, and still find the food there interesting. But I would have to alert all that it’s rather pricey.

If you like to know further about their menu, do hop to Cariso Delicacies Corner for more detail.

Austin Chase

2010_03_27 Austin Chase (14)a

It was coincident circumstances to find out that Austin Chase is opening a new branch in Penang in Queensbay Mall. The moment I saw this outlet, it gives me a feeling of the movie that I watched before, that familiar sound kind of feeling. Not sure you heard of The Jane Austin Book Club.

2010_03_27 Austin Chase (11)a 2010_03_27 Austin Chase (13)a

I see few tables and chairs lining up nicely in the outlet and also books for customers to read. Isn’t it that looks like Jane Austin Book Club’s movie kind of feel? It was like gather a few friends for a coffee and share what they had read about the book that written by Jane Austin. And also share the thoughts and experience which relates to the book.

Because of that movie it really does give me that feel. Just don’t know why. But whatever it is, that has nothing to do with this Austin Chase outlet.

Azuma Japanese Restaurant

Think many had blogged about Azuma Japanese Restaurant in Queensbay. Probably am one of the last one to blog about it.

When I first came to this place, I didn’t bring along my camera for photo shooting, one is because is on working day and never expect to carry my camera wherever I go. After the camera fair visit, we both were wondering what to have for lunch, and if you present a selective company badge, you’re entitled for a 10% discount. So, we decided to try Azuma Japanese Restaurant.

Hubby didn’t want to have bento set, which he finds it too filling and that’s what we normally have. So, he decided to have some ala carte and a bowl of fried rice.

He opted for Garlic Fried Rice. He was commenting it doesn’t really fragrant, but still bearable.

But I chose the USA Scallops Fried Rice. The amount of scallops is generously given, and it’s quite big bowl too. It’ll too filling for a person consume.

Pan Fried Bean Sprout was first to serve.

Followed by Teriyaki Chicken. It’s a bit too salty for our liking.

Then, Mixed Tempura, which consists of white fish fillet, 3 pieces of prawns, capsicum, yam, sweet potato, etc.

When we only ordered these few dishes, the waitress also informed us that’s a promotion on Hokkaido Long Leg Crab which they are promoting for the month of April. Hubby and I were laughing that since we are not able to visit Hokkaido in the near future, so, might as well order a plate and try.

To our surprise it was pretty good, with their special sauce added on top of the crab meat and some assorted mushrooms. Something unique…

Last, we’re served a single scoop of Green Tea Ice Cream.

Total damage if am not mistaken is about RM90+ for 2 persons.

Canton-i Restaurant 香港粥麵家

Every Friday Penang Bridge is always a nightmare for many people that want to be home early. And nobody is exception from this traffic madness, even with many Penangites had filed a complaint to the designated authority, some how, this problem just can’t solved.

Well, for people like us best is to divert traffic and either go down town for a simple dinner and start the journey again or divert the route to the nearest mall for dinner or have a window shopping.

Well, we both chose to have a simple meal in the mall. But then, come to think of it, it ain’t any simple anymore when you got to know we are actually having our dinner in Canton-I Restaurant, a truly Hong Kong cuisine restaurant.

Of course, we didn’t go for anything pricey like Abalone Porridge (鮑魚粥) that costs RM38-00 per bowl. Instead, we have simple Wanton Mee and Rice.

Hubby is always a gourmand person, he will sure order extra, whether it’s an extra plate of noodle or snacks.

But this time, he had Steamed Pork & Shrimp Dumpling (鮮蝦燒賣) that costs RM9-00 for only 4 pieces.

And my favorite Signature Egg Tart (招牌蛋撻) 3 pieces for RM5-00. Well, compared to Imbi Palace, think I prefer the later one. At least less sweet and the pastry are much crispy.

Two Combination of Meat with Rice (燒味雙併飯), guess that’s direct translate, right? Costs RM12-80 per plate. This is absolutely heaven for hubby! He just loves the Char Siew (叉燒) and the Roasted Pork (燒肉), he said it’s crispy and the sweetness of the Char Siew is no word to describe.

And I have a plate of their Signature Prawn Wanton Noodle (鮮蝦雲吞麵), costs RM12-80. I honestly don’t quite like their Wanton Noodle; reason is because I could taste a very strong Alkaline Water. In fact, the Wanton Noodle manufacturer needs Alkaline Water (which is one of the ingredient) to make this noodle. As for the Prawn Wanton, honestly it’s like Hong Kong Wanton style, big and juicy.

I believe striking pink and white is Canton-I’s corporate colour, as you could see every branches is having this colour in their outlet. Seriously, I like the way they deco the outlet, but again, how long and how well will they maintain it?

We both didn’t have any cold beverages, but to order a pot of Jasmine Pearl Tea (RM10-00). At least it helps us to wash off the oil. I personally like the saucers and cups that they served. Very nice indeed!

Total damage due to the madness traffic jam – RM59-35.
