MonRods Kitchen

2009_10_31 Monrods 002a

When I was first introduced to Malay Nasi Ayam Periuk Besar, I was honestly very skeptical about it. Cuz to me anything without lard and garlic, I doubt it’s delicious, tasty or fragrant.

Well this really proofs me wrong, and I am apologizing to have such judgment on this.

Cuz, you know why? Because their Nasi Ayam Periuk Besar honestly is really really good! I’ll give a big thumb up on it.

I brought hubby there today, and I told him it’s a must to try on their Nasi Ayam (aka Chicken Rice). Especially their chili sauce which is made of turmeric sauce, belachan (shrimp paste), shallots, and tomatoes the goes very well with the chicken.

I was told they are pretty famous in Kedah state, and this is the 1st branch in Penang, and was told another branch in Komtar is coming up too.

What’s their signature? All types of Nasi Ayam! Nasi Ayam Dot Mai, Nasi Ayam Madu (Honey Chicken), Nasi Ayam Panggang (BBQ Chicken), and Nasi Ayam Kampung.

But what’s the best among these four, Dot Mai is the best. In fact, Nasi Ayam Kampung was not available when I dined in, I wonder why.

Here’s the photo of Nasi Ayam Panggang and of course, not to miss….

Apart from these chickens rice, they also serve Western Food, Noodles and other light snacks.

Western food like Chicken Chop, Black Pepper Chicken Chop, Fish & Chips. Snacks vary from Monrod Cucur Ikan Bilis, Monrod Cucuk Kodok, French Fries, Fish Nuggets, Chicken Nuggets, Chicken Sausages.

All items are value for money, and with the current economy and also Penangites’ preference, this isn’t a bad place to consider.

Deco is sort of contemprary, and urban feel.

Franchise business and fast food is every where in town, but to find something good and value for money, that’s something hard to come by.

I know many consumers will give such remarks,… but we have this right here in Butterworth in Sunway Carnival Mall. A place where you could find good food as in economical and delicious, as well as value for money too. Why would I say that? Cuz, many of us here are only an employee, money is getting hard to earn nowadays. Therefore looking for value for money food is not easy to come by as I said earlier.

Thanks to Taufulo & CK, who arranged this review for us, and with this now we know where to get such ‘value for money’ food in town. Yes, Kim Tavern is in Sunway Carnival Mall. And it is just located opposite 600CC at the Lower Ground.

Seriously, food range is a lot for people to choose, price range from RM15-90 the most expensive one to RM6-90 the cheapest. And mind you, RM15-90 is Black Pepper Steak, so where can you find such cheap steak for a meal? Right?

Variety of drinks, from fruit juices down to ice blended smoothies. All types of drinks that make you lost your mind in choosing your favourite. Do not believe me?

Edgecumbe Mee Goreng

I was told this is one of the famous mee goring in town apart from the Esplanade & Bangkok Lane. Though I have not tried both of these mentioned. But it was very famous back in 1980s, and they were located in Edgecumbe Road which is off lane of Kelawai Road. That time, the customers will stand next to the smelly drain just to savour this famous mee goreng.

But seriously how many of us know this stall was originated from the Padang Brown? Well, I was told that time they were waned due to change of traffic flow in Padang Brown, then they shifted to Edgecumbe Road. Then from there they moved over to Kompleks Makanan Persiaran Gurney.

What’s surrounding the stall, they have Mamak’s Rojak aka Pasembur.

Drinks stall like Coconut drinks and even the cooling one like this…

Ais Kacang! This would be the best selling during this season, the El Nino attacks season. Right?

They were also featured in RasaRasa & also NST.

Though many had find them drop in their standards, however, once the master chef had left the place, some how the quality of the food will be slightly affected. And customers should anticipate that.

This is the plate that hubby had order. It looks so red, and I could only taste chili. It isn’t that bland or tasteless like others had mentioned. If one would willing to improve the quality of food and the hygiene of the stall perhaps that would give this plate of mee goreng a better taste.

Well, I may be wrong,… well, if one do not take the initiative, ended up the business will be slowly waned.

Here’s the price list of the additional, down from ordinary to special taste and squid only.
