Gelatissimo, Gurney Plaza

2009_08_22 Gelatisimo 008a

When I received the email from Gourmet Garden about the review for Gelatissimo, I immediately accept it without second thought. Cuz, that gives me the opportunity to know more about the making Gelato.

In fact, do I fancy their ice cream? Well, of course… otherwise, I would not have been visited their first outlet in The Garden.

When we first stepped into this place, we posted a lot of questions to the owner, we asked question what’s the differences between ice cream and gelato, what’s the difference between gelato and sorbet, and many more.

He’s kind enough to explain each of our doubts and also showed us the process of making the gelato.

Honestly how does this Gelato came about, there are many versions of it, what I have extracted from the Gelatissimo’s site is something like this - In the thirteenth century Marco Polo discovered recipes for frozen milk desserts among the treasure he brought back from the court of the great Khan. A few centuries later in France, ices became really fashionable. Francesco Procope, (now with a French accented name) opened the first Parisienne ice cream parlour. Within a short time, there were some two hundred and fifty such parlours. From France, ice cream making spread to the English court.

We have tried all the flavour that day and what’s the best is their best selling flavour – Mango. Some how it’s flavourful compared to other brand of ice cream or gelato.

Of course, they have other drinks that is for other customers too… for example, gelato float, gelato shakes, etc.

And all sizes of cups for what you could order, and the price list is also openly presented to its customers too.

Down in Malaysia, only 3 branches and this one of it is in Gurney Plaza.

Gelatissimo, The Garden-Mid Valley

Gelatissimo – The Real Taste of Italia Ice Cream

Last year Christmas as in the recent Christmas, we had our family trip to KL for holiday. Basically the trip wasn’t like what we normally did, but makan instead.

2nd day in KL, we decided to visit The Garden, a new phase of Mid Valley, a high end shopping complex in Mid Valley. I believe their anchor tenant is Isetan and Robinson, well, I may be wrong.

Anyway, while we were walking to The Garden, I saw this ice cream counter at the entrance. Then I look at my sister, she was suggesting why don’t we give it a try. Cuz, we have tried Baskin Robins, Häagen Dazs & Lekka-Lekka, but not this.
By looking at the choices, do you think we could pick our favourite?? All of us were struggling what to choose.

Taste wise, it’s kinda similar to Lekka-Lekka, cuz, both are Italian Ice Cream. Flavour wise, I guess I still prefer Lekka-Lekka compared to Gelatissimo.

Anyway, who cares right, … as long as am not paying for it… [LOL] cuz, you know what, ice cream alone it costs us RM80+, expensive huh?!

Just like anyone say, who cares, enjoy first… after all it’s Christmas!!!

Häagen Dazs, Auto City

Happy New Year!!! Happy 2008!!!

So, what did you do on 31st Dec 2007?? Were you at the count down party? Were you spending quality time with family? Were you staying at home doing nothing but sleep? Well, never mind, just think what you think is worth the value for you, no matter you were staying alone at home sleeping or attending count down party down the streets, right?

Well, hubby and I are old enough to join the young ones for that party, but, we had good time having ice cream.

Since its New Year Eve, we took a slow drive across the straits and landed in Auto City. Thought of land in any café or bistro for a drink that’s what we thought to do so. While we were looking for a place to settle down, we both saw this outlet in Auto City.
Yup, that’s right! It’s Häagen Dazs Ice Cream.

This is indeed a good news for all Häagen Dazs fans in Butterworth. With this outlet, people in Butterworth or rather mainland need not cross the straits anymore. Isn’t it good?
Without second thought, hubby and I walked in and start order our ice creams. The place is bright, well arranged, clean and tidy. The staff there were friendly, and helpful too.
There were a lot of flavours for us to choose, and since I just had chocolate flavour the other day with my close friend and her family. So, I chose a different kind of taste, I chose Melon with almond flakes and cracks cone pieces as topping. Hubby picked Tiramisu flavour with the same toppings.
It was heavenly nice and cooling when I first taste it. Nice, deco?

I realize the deco from each outlet is different from each other. This outlet for single scoop ice cream will land on a wafer like a bowl. Where as in Penang, the Bellisa Row outlet is place on an ice cream glass.

So, do you find this quality time spending for a New Year Eve??

Swensen's Café

It was a very unpleasant evening that I spent in Auto City today. I was not happy and was not satisfy with the respond that the waitress that gave me that they only accept credit cards only if the total bill is above RM30-00. Even so, there’s promotion on Citibank which you dine in this place, you’re entitle for 10% discount.

But to my surprise this is their outlet policy where they do not accept credit card below RM30. And my total bill was only RM29-33. What if I was being stubborn and nasty that I don’t want to pay cash? Are they supposed to accept the credit card and also give me a 10% discount?

That’s not the money matters me, but the principle of a consumer. They can’t even give me a proper answer why they can’t accept credit card even it’s Citibank promotion. In fact, one gave me an answer that you can present your Citibank card and they will waive 10% discount, if your total bill is below RM30, then you would have to pay cash. On the other hand, the other waitress said, even if you present your Citibank Card, they will not waive 10% discount cuz, it’s below RM30.

Well, I believe those of you that read this will find this completely unfair to a consumer point. I mean correct me if am wrong, doesn’t mean all bills that above RM30 that only allow to waive 10% if you pay by Citibank Credit Card? Do you find it fair? I personally don’t think that’s fair!!

Oh ya, this outlet that I went in Auto City, they are actually segregated an air-condition outlet and an open space with giant screen. When we stepped in, they stopped us and wonder are we coming with our family. I was puzzled for a moment and didn’t quite understand what were they trying to address. The waitress said, the air-cond area are meant for group customers or those with family and kids, the rest are advised to take a seat at the open space area.

At that point in time, I wasn’t happy with that, and of course, I didn’t bother to query further, after all, I was just company hubby for a dessert that’s all.

After we called for the bill, that was where and when the anger push up.

I shall not talk about it any further…

Sticky Chewy Choc
Gold Rush
Anyway, it was a hot weather and hubby kept telling me that the weather is hot and he would like to go for something cold, that’s where we ended up for ice cream. And a coffee lover like him will definitely order a coffee ice cream. He ordered a Gold Rush which is a coffee and a chocolate flavor. Where else I have a Sticky Chewy Choc which they claimed is their all time favorite.

Beside ice cream in Swensen’s, they also serve other food and beverages, eg. Pasta, baked rice, salads, sandwiches, etc.
They also have another outlet in Queensbay Mall, and it’s next to Sakae Sushi outlet. They also arrange birthday party, if needed in Auto City outlet. Do drop by any of this outlet whenever you feel like it.Here are the quick shots on their menu ... colourful and attractive.
