During my recent visit in KL, for the 1st time, I decided to have a sumptuous breakfast in the hotel, though we normally did, but for this particular special season, we dined in for good breakfast in The Living Room.

The Living Room, is the place where you could dine in all day, and it’s a casual yet elegant and stylish place to dine.

Grandmama's

When I was here last year, I remember I didn’t see this outlet exists. Perhaps it opens after that… when it comes to food in Pavilion, seriously, you maybe wonder what to eat, whether the food nice or not, or is it value for the money or it’s accommodate to our budget, another word we called it – boring.

Grandmama’s though is not any household name, but the food offered isn’t that bad, at least it is compliant to our basic request, like budget, value for money, serving and so on.

I know many Penangite will not agree with me to have Chicken Rice in such a beautiful mall. Cuz, any stalls in the island would have beaten this, in terms of price, serving and the taste.

But when come to a point there’s nothing in the menu the spur up your interest; let’s go back to basic – Chicken Rice (RM13.80).

I have to admit that the chicken rice here is not up to Penang’s standard, but the way they steam the chicken, it steamed to perfection. It makes the chicken tender and juicy, added on some sesame oil, soya sauce and so on. So, conclusion it isn’t bad at all!

What I have was Hakka Fried Rice (RM14.50). What makes me curious to find out is the difference on Hakka Fried Rice and other ordinary fried rice? When they served, I nearly laugh out loud, it was just the colour darker that’s all. Taste wise, it’s full of ‘wok hei’, it’s delicious.

This place though may find it pricey, but with the cramp down in Food Republic and the price that’s selling down there, I rather op for Grandmama’s. At least it saves all the hassles of queuing up for food, and the price is about the same. So, why not, right?

Christmas has just passed, so, how do you all spend it? I had a good one in fact, yes, again it’s in KL. Well, this is more of a remembrance of what we had spent last year, especially with the Mama Mia’s musical stage was on the hit last year.

2009_12_24 Gonbei 027a

1st stop was lunch in Starhill Gallery on Christmas Eve… a sumptuous lunch with Abalone Sashimi as appetizer which is on the house some more. That gives all of us a indulge feeling. Not to forget that 2nd plate of Abalone Sashimi is only costs RM38 per piece, all Abalones are imported from Chile.

2009_12_24 Gonbei 025a

Next, followed by a variety of sashimi, with the range of White Tuna, Red Tuna and Salmons. Look at the size of these assorted sashimi… I would have to comment that I doubt I could find such generous sashimi in Penang.

2009_12_24 Gonbei 032a 2009_12_24 Gonbei 030a 2009_12_24 Gonbei 031b

Grilled items like Mackerel, Salmons, and Unagi (Eel). It’s juicy and tender.

2009_12_24 Gonbei 036a 2009_12_24 Gonbei 037a

Fried items like Tempura, we have Prawns and Soft Shell Crabs. The prawns are fresh and it’s big in sizes too, and that goes to the crabs as well.

2009_12_24 Gonbei 041a 2009_12_24 Gonbei 042a

Teppanyaki items are the butter garlic fried prawns and salmons.

Other items that we had were Teriyaki Chicken, Japanese Soft Tofu, Temaki (Handroll Tuna & Salmon) and Green Peas (Edamame 枝豆 えだまめ).

2009_12_24 Gonbei 055a 2009_12_24 Gonbei 052a

With all the food that we had, honestly, we could easily skip dinner. We were so full, … well that’s not the end, we were served Green Tea Ice Cream with Red Beans, and also assorted local fruits, papaya, watermelon, honeydew and pineapple.

Though I heard of people commented the service and food are lousy, but honestly, it was superb to us. The service was attentive, and the food serving is value for money too.

2009_12_24 Gonbei 066a 2009_12_24 Gonbei 006a

What they offered right now is ala carte buffet at RM75++, dinner is buffet style at RM88++.

To all my readers... I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a
Happy Happy New Year!!
