Feringgi Grill

- I apologize for all blur photos, the light was too dim, and am a new user to a SLR, as such not able to capture any nice shots on this memorable dinner -

How do you all spend your wedding anniversary with your love one??
I know some of my friends will ask the husband to give them a surprise by observing their wives what they like and what they hint.

Remember I did talk about it, hubby and I have a special place where he and I love this place and we made it a point to spend our wedding anniversary there.

Yes, this is the place …. Feringgi Grill in Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa.

We both would like to thank them for giving us a fond memory, not to mention an excellent services and great food.

We never make any reservation in fact, it was merely walk in to find out whether the place is full or still have a few tables for people like us. The staff there were polite and attentive, straight away they told us, the kitchen is open and they can reserve a nice view for us.

We took our sweet time walked around the resort, and of course took some photos too…. Not that we both had stayed here before, well… Rasa Sayang has its international reputation which also attracted former British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair came here for his vacation too.

When we were guided to our table, the staff immediately hand us the menu. The menu which has the Chef’s specialty and also the set dinner for the night too. Apart from that, a dessert menu is presented after the dinner and of course a wine menu will be pairing with the food menu.

While we were flipping thru the menu, a basket of bread was served, bread that has grilled with charcoal, and even as thin as a paper is served. This is something different which they served with butter or tomato sauce. I supposed that’s for the grilled bread.
Apart from that, or rather before the starter, we were given a small piece of lamb with some herbs. It was tantalizing.

While we were debating what to have for our dinner… the staff was kind and recommended a few for us to choose. Hubby chose Chef Adam’s choice – Wood Plank Monkfish (RM110++) which pairing with a glass of wine that costs RM27++, it’s something sweet and not too dry. And I have Quack Quack (RM105++)for myself.

Know what, I’ve tried many tomato soup in town, no other could beat their Feringgi Grill Classic Tomato Soup (RM32++), which they will show you how they make it on the spot for their guests. And I am in love with this soup for so many years.

The soup is simple; first they will heat up the herb butter, then pour in the fine chop shallots, mushrooms and stir until it fragrant. Then they will put the freeze concentrated tomato puree (which is their home made) slowly heat it up in the hot pan. Add on some wine that burst out the flame (which I didn’t manage to capture that), then pour it on to the soup bowl, added the finely chopped chives and pour the cream on to the soup.

I truly enjoyed every sip of this soup… it’s just too good to write it out.

Next, another classic from Feringgi Grill is their Caesar Salad (WR Jacob Greek Garden – RM30++). Egg York, Anchovies, Mustard, Shallots, Garlic, Cheese and others, the staff will mix well all the mentioned ingredients and place it nicely on a plate for the guest.

After our starter, a Lemon & Lime Sorbet that serves on a Martini glass were given to wash off the flavour that we had earlier.

Few minutes later, we were served with our main entrée.

Wood Plank Monkfish was his choice. Couple of years ago, I’d tried Monkfish before, but that time I was having it baked, this time, hubby have it in an adventure way. It was something different and it was awesome to him.

Well, mine was Quack Quack… which animal sounds quack quack quack?? Well, of course any kids will answer you that - duck la! Yup, I have Duck on my plate for the night. A solid duck meat lightly roasted, and duck liver roasted and rested on the dried fruits. It was stunningly delicious.

After my meal, I took a few minutes away, and they came forward to inform my husband that do not order any extra dessert as they are giving one for us. When I came back, hubby shared this surprise with me, and I was so shy to receive this piece of surprise from Feringgi Grill.

From the set dinner that hubby ordered, it’s already come with an Apple Crumble Pie for him, and added another complimentary dessert, am afraid we both gotta carry our full tummy out from here.

Before the surprise, I was thinking to have their classic dessert, The Crepe Dessert. But that give me another reason to go back again. Right?

Here comes the Apple Crumble Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream. It isn’t that sweet, but it’s something that will take your mind away. Cuz, it’s good, nice and great!

And these 2 lovely cake that is complimentary from Feringgi Grill.

Last… each one of us was given 2 chocolates to end the dinner at this wonderful, elegant fine dining restaurant.

Pitt Street Koay Teow Th'ng 椰腳粿條湯

Pitt Street Koay Teow Th’ng – the original Koay Teow Th’ng from Hai Oan coffee shop that located in Burmah Road.

What’s attractive about this Koay Teow Th’ng is their fish ball and the pork patty and not to forget the chili that they make. Though it’s only chili padi, garlic and soya sauce, am sure they added either lemon juice or lime juice, otherwise, how could it be so tantalizing?

I remember CK blogged about them moving to a new place, thank god it was just a few doors away. As such, it would not be too difficult to locate them, after all, this is the place where you could see lots of tourists walking around with their camera, umbrella, drinking bottle and of course with a tour guide.

I’ve never try out this main branch before, and I always like to eat their KTT because of the fish balls is springy and the pork patties. It’ll good if you could add their specially made chili too. It is just absolutely delicious!!

This stall was also awarded for a special award in year 2002. Well, I supposed this couldn’t be wrong, right? (椰腳粿條湯 - 曾榮獲2002年皇牌小吃)

Fat Mum Seafood House 肥媽海鮮煮炒

Good food is every where in town, you just need to have the patient and time to check it out.

I came across this place when I had my breakfast next door, I was wondering would it be something nice down there and reasonable too?

Well, true enough my family had great time down there, yes down here in Fat Mum Seafood House (肥媽海鮮煮炒). It was our first time, and we didn’t know what best down there, the Tau Keh Soh / Si Tau Poh / 老闆娘 was very friendly, cheerful and helpful, she took our order and kept telling us what’s their signature dishes down there and also gave us some special discount if the drinks is not nice.

When we were wondering what to have, she was telling us they have Sambal Petai Udang, and that got my mom’s attention, straight way Fat Mum said, let’s have a small plate to try out their way of cooking petai. It wasn’t that bad smell, and the prawns are fresh and springy.

Then mom wants something like Marmite Chicken, I believe they deep fried the marinated chicken and glazed with Marmite and Honey. It was crispy outside and juicy inside.

Next was the Asam Steamed Fish which Fat Mum insists we should try. True enough it was the best dish for the night. It wasn’t sour and it was just nice for everyone of us.

A plate of vegetable which no one would want to miss it. Kai Lan with other ingredients like carrots, mushrooms and meat.

When my brother wants a plate of Foo Yong Egg (Egg Omelet), Fat Mum didn’t want to take that order, she was saying why don’t we give a try on their Mongolia Tofu, if ever we don’t like that, that plate of dish will be on the house. Thank God, at least it satisfied my brother. [LOL]

Oh yes, Fat Mum also recommended their 3 in 1 to us. That honestly puzzled each of everyone of us, before we could answer her we didn’t want to have 3 in 1 coffee, she said that’s something that we should try. Again,… here’s a trademark, if it’s not nice, this glass of 3 in 1 will be on the house. 3 in 1 is actually Cucumber, Green Apple and Sour Plum (酸梅), she said it’s cooling especially we are being attacked by this heat wave.

And 2 bottles of Carlsberg for the men.

Good food, good drinks, and a friendly Tau Keh Soh, isn’t that making our dinner a great one?

List of food on the wall....

113 台牛后 Lebuh Melayu Koay Teow Th'ng

The advantage of reading food blog is to look for food when you’re running out of idea what to have for breakfast, or where to go for breakfast.

I actually read about Food Paradise blogging about this place and told hubby about it. So, we drove all the way to cross the bridge just to have a bowl of this Koay Teow Th’ng.

Well, isn’t that spontaneous per say, I was dragged to get up early for hiking instead. While I was still on sleeping mode, I was dreaming for a steaming hot bowl of soup.

Anyway, early in the morning it was many customers in the shop, but I could still see a few of its regular customers patronizing the stall… what makes me so sure they are regular? Well, from the way they talk to the boss, the way the boss react on their request that could tell it all.

For a first timer like me, we didn’t have anything extra but something ordinary.

The duck meat, fish ball, fish cake, and even the duck liver were nicely blended with the soup and the noodles.

In fact, they have duck intestine, porridge (鴨粥) and also Koay Chiap (粿汁) of which I have not try out personal, and I bet it would be good.

Oh, I didn’t mention how clean and hygiene is the place, didn’t I? It’s clean and the service was absolutely satisfying. At least the person that came and asked us for our order was friendly.

It isn’t a bad idea to get up early for this bowl of nice Duck Meat Koay Teow Th’ng.

Perut Rumah Nyonya Cuisine

A century old heritage has turned into a nice Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant that established for a year plus which located along Jalan Kelawai awaits for all the Nyonya food lovers to try out their food.

When CK published her post on Perut Rumah, I was basically driving around to look for the building. It’s something that is not noticeable if you do not pay attention, well, it’s a bright orange heritage house that on your left if you are coming down from Pangkor Road.

One of the weekends, we both have nothing to do, so spontaneously we hop into this place. When we both first stepped in, we have that ‘WOW’ kind of feeling. It’s beautifully decorated, it’s full of cultural colours, and it’s pleasant to dine in a place like this. Furthermore it could definitely help to boost your appetite.

We were greeted by an elderly man and also the service was attentive, within few minutes our food was served.

Let’s allow the food that speaks for me down here…

A plate of Sambal Petai (RM14), this plate is surely our favourite, though it stinks but it’s definitely one of the best food that doctor would recommend.

A bowl of Tau Eu Bak with 2 Hard Boil Eggs (RM14) apparently is a famous dish for all to order when comes to Nyonya food. Don’t you agree?

A Asam Pedas Stingray (RM15), it taste sour and spicy and it has a little bit of sweetness from the pineapple that cooked together with the paste.

2 cups of home made hot barley (RM6) that give us a soothing throat after such a delighted meal in this hot weather.

And I am pleased to share some of the interior deco as well as the external deco to you... it was pleasant.
