加料咖喱麵

Those that stay in Butterworth, they will not find this stall strange.

Yup, this is everyone call 'Keh Liao Curry Mee'. The stall used to be on the other side of the road, some how due to new development, they are forced to move to the current place. Their stall is actually located few meters from the Jalan Telaga Air traffic light.

In fact, this stall was published in Flavours Magazine Good Food Guide some time last year. I wasn't able to take the picture (at that moment) of how many dishes where you can order. But, am showing you what was the magazine was showing.
I've been there many times, the only thing that we find it some how a bit funny is, the 1st bowl that you order is always little, but the 2nd order is slightly bigger portion.

Oh ya, the stall only open at night, and close on Sunday. Those days the stall will only open for business when they can find those sotongs with eggs (is that what you call?), other wise, they will not open at all.

Dried curry mee with cockles, tou pok.

Here are some of the pictures that I've taken. Look at the cockles... it looks so bloody.... And those side dishes... look at the curry paste, ... do you feel the spicy-ness in your mouth??

Steam Bean Curd / Tofu (蒸豆腐)

Mince meat (pork) steam bean curd/tofu would be an easy food for old folks or even toddler. Isn't it true? Bean curd is something soft, and easy to swallow, need not to chew, right?

Anyway, I'd learned this from a girlfriend. She taught me how to cook this dish. She was telling me this dish is nutritious and easy to make.

What you actually need is actually 2 to 3 tubes of these egg tofu, mince meat (ie. beef, mutton, chicken or pork), few mushrooms (dried or fresh), and chopped spring onions to sprinkle on top.

Before steaming, first must marinate the meat as well as the mushrooms. Marinate with dark soya source, oyster source (for about 30mins) and a bit of sugar and salt to balance the taste.

Then, you need to heat up the wok, and fry some garlics till fragrant, and add on the mince meat and the mushrooms. Fried till it's cooked, and leave it aside. Cut those egg tofu with desired size and line it on the place. Pour those cooked mince meat on top of the egg tofu and steam for 10 minutes. Then after, sprinkle those chopped spring onions on top the egg tofu.

Viola.... here comes my dinner!!!! [wink][wink]

Kapitan Kopitiam

After the long que to purchase the Smart Tag, we had our breakfast at about 10.45am. At that time, honestly, I don't feel like eating any breakfast like soft boil egg, sandwishes, and so on. But then, hubby insisted to try on this new outlet which is opposite the new Sunway Carnival Mall.

This outlet do serve breakfast and lunch. The decor of the outlet isn't that bad, it does look like any other Old Town outlet. I wonder why one had done such design the others will tend to follow.

This is their menu, they do serve breakfast like soft boil egg, egg toast, bread toast with cheese, nanyang coffee, white coffee, and other fruit juices too.

As for lunch, they also have nasi lemak (椰浆饭), tomyam noodles, pasta, etc.

That's one thing that I would like to highlight, they should serve the eggs and the toasted bread together instead of sending the bread to the customers first. Cuz, by the time they send us the egg, honestly, the toasted bread no longer nice to eat.

And, we both have waited for about 15 minutes for the egg. [sigh]

This is an extra bread that hubby had ordered while we were waiting for the eggs. It's actually a toasted bread with jam and cheese in between. This costs about RM2.20 per plate.

Before we could wait for the egg, I have drank half of my white coffee. So, you can imagine waiting time is kinda long....

If you ask me how do I rate this, honestly, I'll not give any rating, cuz, this shop has just opened for only a week. When we're there, we actually saw lots of flower bouquets lining up at the shop. So, it's kinda difficult to give our comment, the only thing that I think they should consider how to smoother their process, cuz, you shouldn't let your customer wait for the soft boil eggs and sending the toasted bread to them first.

Right?

Fried Meat with Fermented Bean Curd

Yes, my invented dish.... hehehehe... perasan only, in fact this was taught by my mom. I was once sick of preparing dinner and tired of cooking (even though loved one loves eating). Probably am too tired.

But then, mom said I'll have additional bowl of rice if I cook this dish. I wondered why would I, ha ha... now I know why. Cuz, it's delicious and it's spicy.

Ok, ingredients are simple.

1st, just get those 'sam chang bak' (三層肉), marinate with sugar (heard from mom that will make your meat tender, better than soda bicarbonate) & dark soya source for about 30 mins to 1 hour.

Then, take one cube each of those fermented bean curd (腐乳 & 南乳), mix these both.

Wash dried chilies (辣椒乾) and cut into half, and some garlics.
Hit up the wok with some oil, fried those dried chilies first till it's fragrant and add on those garlics.
After that, add those meat into the wok and stir fry.
Follow by those blended fermented bean curd and continue stir fry.

And, this will be the dish that makes you add on additional bowl of rice!! hehehehehe

McDonald Breakfast

What was the most famous fast food breakfast that everyone would think of? Of course, McDonald Breakfast~la! Right?

Hehehe... the truth is, I actually do have the left over McDonald vourcher from friends' babies' full moon... so, might as well use those vouchers and have a simple breakfast, right?

But then, when you take a look at their choice of breakfast, honestly, it has not been that bad either. They do have porridge, McEgg Muffin, Fillet O'Fish, and many more. Beside, if you choose a McValue Meal, it will bunded with a Hash Brown and a Large Coffee or Tea. Isn't it value for money? Oh ya, coffee and tea are free for refill.

I had my McDonald Breakfast in Auto City @ Juru. When I was there, there have actually quite a number of tables are being occupied. I could see families bringing their children for McDonald Breakfast, and so on.

The outlet in Auto City is actually operates 24 hours and breakfast started at 4am. I believe it's cater for the Prai Industrial Estate working people. Well, do drop if you happen to have McDonald vourchers, or when you're yearning for something like fastfood breakfast or you would like go for a strong coffee, ... I would recommend McDonald Breakfast!

Ipoh Hor Fun (怡保雞絲河粉)

Today marks a calendar special date 07.07.07 - a new discovery of Ipoh Hor Fun (怡保河粉) located in Chai Leng Park (Wai Sek Kai in Cantonese). The shop name is Lao Di Fang!

I didn't know there's a stall selling Ipoh authentic dish, that's call Ipoh Kei Si Hor Fun (怡保雞絲河粉) and Fresh Prawns Wantan (鮮蝦云吞). I presumed the owner must be from Ipoh as the way he described the order relates to a Ipoh Cantonese way.

I took the Ipoh Hor Fun, the tiny flat noodle, a plate of chicken that came with Ipoh style ginger paste and a bowl of wanton soup. Surprisingly, the taste is of the Ipoh authentic taste.

Noticed that quite a lot of customer walk-in to buy home and some eat in.

Oh ya, another thing that I guess not many coffee shop have such healthy advice, this actually caught my attention. How many coffee shop will tell you that they are actually using those water filter to filter the water? How many of those coffee shop that use less sugar for any beverages that you order? Honestly, I hardly see one of this, except this one.

If you ask me what would I rate this? Well, I'll give it a 4 star out of 5. The cleanliness of the shop is also another area that I would like to bring up too, it's clean and it's bright, tables and chairs are well organized too.

Don't believe it? Check it out yourself ...

32 Mansion

I believe many Penangites will know where is 32 Mansion and also noted of its ambiance and cozy atmosphere.

In fact, this is one of my past dated post. Been to 32 Mansion some time in early June and total 7~8 of us and the total bill was only less than RM300. So, it's worth of dining there during lunch. They will encourage you to try their Executive Lunch where they serve Lamb Shank, Cod, etc of which these are their specialties.

If you love jazz music, their in house band will commence from 9pm till 12am every day (if am not mistaken). The soothing music and voice will give you a marvellous candle light dinner with your love one.

Personal advise, please make reservation especially on Friday - Sunday night.

Ok, here are some pictures where I took and personally I find the chicken kebab is better than the cod fish.

The above is seafood pasta with tomato source.

Lamb chop with special source.

That's one thing that you must try whenever you're here in 32 Mansion, that's they salad. The Piquant Salad Source is their in house specialty, it has the strong lemond grass and lemon that makes the source so tasty. The Executive Lunch offers either the soup of the day or the salad, main course, dessert, followed by coffee or tea.

Do drop by if you like beaches, the breezes, the soothing jazz, and the cozy environment for dinner and lunch. I'll strongly recommend this place for any couples too...

Oh ya, they also cater for any wedding banquet, I heard it turns out to be very romantic too.

Dim Sum Breakfast 點心早點

超全茶樓 is the place where many of the Butterworth or even Bukit Mertajam people favourate place for Dim Sum (點心) over the weekend. One of the reason is because they have variety of dim sum and the price are reasonable.

4 of us were there for breakfast, actually had spent about RM45, and we have ordered 茶王 and 菊堡 respectively. Apparently, this is the only 茶樓 do not charge different price on different type of Chinese tea.

A night before, hubby's buddy was calling him for breakfast, well, me as the "Lou Foo La" (that's what the husband usually call their wife) of course tagged along la.

While waiting for the guys, both of us actually have ordered 菊堡, some how by the time they were here, another friend of hubby have ordered 茶王. The differences of the 2 tea, one is slightly lighter in the colour, where else the other the colour is rather darker. Taste wise, the latter is the better one.

I didn't take much of the photo from this place, 1 reason the food presentation honestly is not that tempting compare to those restaurant serving.

However, this is the one that it seems to be the favourate one and it's been recommended by many people.

This dish is actually steam fish head with rice vermicelli (米粉), and some tou foo and chili padi. The taste is something different and noted that many tables have actually ordered it.

We have ordered many dishes like Shrimp Dumpling (蝦餃), Sui Mai (燒賣), Century Egg Congee (皮蛋瘦肉粥), and many others deep fried stuff.

Oh ya, in case you guys can't find this place, this 茶樓 is actually located at Jalan Heng Choon Thean, and it's actually behind Butterworth Police Station and also next to the wet market. I purposely took this picture, so that you can know where is this 茶樓. They do have branches in Jalan Raja Uda too... Will post it, if I visit them again.

A simple dinner

I remembered I dropped a line on Sembang N Talk some time ago and I said I'll post this if ever my mom cooked petai.

It's been awhile I didn't go home for dinner, and mom called up and said, 'Hey, I'll be cooking your favourate, do you wanna come home for dinner?". Without second thought, I told mom, ya, why not?
Guess what my mom cooked that night... my favourate petai!!!
My mom's style of petai is different from others (no choice~la, cuz, all her children have special aquired taste~mah!).

She will blend all chilies, ie. red chilies and chilies padi and add on few bulbs of garlics. Then after this chili paste will be cooked with these petai. Mom advised these chilies are not advisable to over cooked, once you did, it will turn out to be burning taste. That will definitely spoilt the petai.

This dish is so simple that you just need to add oil on your wok, and wait till it's hot; and add those chili paste that you'd just blended. Stir awhile and add on the petai (remember to wash, ok?), then stir fry it. Of course you gotta season it, by adding in salt and a bit sugar. Like I mentioned earlier, not to over cook it, cuz, petai can be eat raw too. So, just have a quick stir will do.
Beside petai, mom had cooked the rest of the dishes too... hehehe..... I wasn't interested in others, so, didn't bother to ask my mom what is the ingredients. Anyway, I'll still post it, unless you are interested, I'll ask my marvelous cook ~~ mom!

The Ultimate List of Malaysian Food Blogs

You know Malaysia Best is always my favourate blog and addicted site where I must see 4~5 times a day, not that I don't want to use the RSS, it's the joyful feeling of getting into the site that makes me excited. Always looking forward to see what has Lilian write for today, what food is she going to share, things like that.

Ok, ... well, it's the same old thing and I went to her site and got to know she was posting the list of "The Ultimate Malaysian Food Blogs" which was prepared and compiled by Zhong Internet Digest.

First thing came to my mind was, ... "hmmm, my site wouldn't be in the list here, cuz, am not any high flyer, nor any recommended blog. Think I should work hard for it." and that's what I told hubby too. And I even dropped a line at Zhong's blog and told him/her that I would be happy if he/her could add me in the list. No doubt it was just trying my luck to see will he/she respond to my request.

Only after that, I realize ... "Hey, my blog is in the list~!!!" I was jumping out from the chair and hurray about it. I have never ever have such opportunity for that. And this is actually make my day.

On another happy thing is, one of my favourate blog has added me into his blog roll and I would like to take this opportunity for thanking him ~~ TummyThoughts! Thanks ya~!!

Wow - what a wonderful day and happy day~!! Yahoooo!!!!

Herbal Soup Noddles

First of all, I would like to apologize for not able to post some blogs down here, and I've been busy, apart from that things at work are a bit hectic too.

Anyway, weekend, ... Saturday! Of course, I'll hunt for food to fill up my empty and starving stomach~la... and guess many people knows that, breakfast is the most important meal for the day. Without that, I can't even think of anything to write. Hahahaha....

Anyway, I was actually driving around and didn't realize I've actually cross the bridge, and also realized that early dawn it was raining too. With such cozy whether, what would be the best thing to eat then.... hmmm....

We didn't really got far away, but landed in a place called Chai Leng Park where you will see lots of local hawker delights down here, food like Hokkien Mee, Wan Tan Mee, Char Koay Teow, etc.... Like I said, a cozy whether is best to go for some soupy noddles, huh!

So, we ended at this place called May Siang Way. Hubby and I ordered this herbal soup noddle, where they have ribs, duck meat, drumstick and chicken too. Each of those for only RM3.30, comparatively to Penang Island, some charged RM3.70. Of course, the soup from May Siang Way is not has tasty as the one sell in front of Kah Motor in Sungai Pinang (槟城鸭腿面线). But this one isn't that bad too.

By looking the picture, you could tell how steaming hot it is and I would have to take awhile to snap it.

In fact, it doesn't look as good as the one that I mentioned, or sumptuous. However, like I said it isn't that bad to give it a try. After all, it's only RM3.30, plus the bridge toll is only RM5.60, right?

Then after could have a slow drive down to Bukit Mertajam or another neighbourhood Seberang Jaya, where they have just have this new place call Sunway Carnival. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures from that mall, otherwise, it would be more to share with everyone.
